Smoke Condition Evacuates Spring Lake Heights Elementary School

Issue with roof Wednesday, no injuries reported

 

Spring Lake Heights Elementary students and staff were evacuated Wednesday after a smoke condition unfolded from the school roof.

Independent Fire Company #1 reported the problem was with a roof-mounted HVAC unit that created a smoke condition after noon Wednesday.

The fire alarm sounded sending school children and staff outside as emergency responders investigated the smell of smoke, and the rooftop unit was secured.

No injuries were reported and all students were returned to their classes after the building was cleared, reported Independent Fire Company #1.

The kindergarten through 8th grade school is on Route 71 and Brighton.
