POLL: Breathalyze Students at School Dances?
Manasquan School Board mulling the option for next year
The William S. Nixon Foundation has offered to provide the Manasquan school district with breathalyzers to use at school dances and other student events.
After some discussion at the School Board's Tuesday meeting regarding the legality and accuracy of using breathalyzers at student functions, Board President Michelle LaSala told members to sleep on the idea for the board's next meeting.
Board Attorney R. Armen McComber said there are several court cases challenging the accuracy of the use of breathalyzers. Training is also required to operate the equipment, he said.
Margaret Hom, the district's business administrator and board secretary, said the school district had run into administrative issues several years ago regarding the use of breathalyzers.
LaSala said the board should consider whether to use them next school year.
What say you? Should students be subjected to random breathalyzer tests upon entering school dances and/or other school functions?

No, students should not be Breathalized unless they're driving drunk. I don't like the idea of anyone being able to breathalyze a child on a whim.

Are you retarded? Check then when they are driving drunk? Is this before or after they kill someone you love?

I don't know the policy for posting links to other stories by other news sources, so I won't post the link. A different county news source has a story about Red Bank Regional's approach to the possibility of students drinking and driving. RBR Project Prom SHOWS seniors the dangers of drinking and driving by having a hands on assembly with speakers whose lives have been changed by drinking and driving. One of the speakers was a driver.

It is a preventative measure. If the possibility exists of getting tested for doing an act that is illegel-Under age drinking-Kids going to prom are under age. A problem exists all over, not try to prevent the issue here why? DO you not care about these kids? When you see a stop sign do you stop or drive thru it. We have lost too many kids, its time to do something different.
