Pair Indicted for Prescription Fraud in Belmar

Face similar charges in Superior Court for alleged Wall, Long Branch incidents

Two out-of-towners last week were indicted by a Superior Court grand jury on prescription fraud charges stemming from separate incidents in Belmar and other nearby towns in which authorities allege they forged prescription blanks to obtain oxycodone, documents show.

Nancy B. Sileo, 51, of Oaklyn, and Michael McIlwain, 26, of Oreland, Penn., are charged with several counts of forgery and fraud for an alleged Dec. 22 pharmaceutical shopping spree in which they attempted to use the forged prescriptions to purchase oxycodone from pharmacies in Belmar, Wall and Long Branch, the indictment says.

Oxycodone, in a class of medication called opiate (narcotic) analgesics, is used to relieve moderate to severe pain, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The pair was seemingly successful in obtaining the generic version of the drug from Colfax Pharmacy in Wall and Belmar Town Pharmacy, but tried and failed to cash-in on a forged prescription for roxicodone (a brand-name version of the drug) at the West End Family Pharmacy in Long Branch, the indictment says.

The pair face seven total counts stemming from the three alleged incidents.

The indictment was signed by County Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr.
