No School Board Meeting Tuesday

Work session canceled due to NJSBA convention

Manasquan's School Board has canceled its monthly work session scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 23, officials said.

The meeting conflicted with the state School Boards Association's (NJSBA) annual workshop convention, which is set for Tuesday in Atlantic City.

School officials will still meet for their regular meeting on Oct. 30 at the High School

So, how much is the "workshop" convention going to cost us?

Probably nothing. Certainly not what it has in prior years under Mrs. Margin and her cronies who went down for fancy dinners and hotel rooms. The handful of members I've spoken with have all stated they aren't going, and those that said they may attend were doing so out of their own pockets. Of course, the best place to ask your question would be directly to the board in one of their meetings rather than attempt to stir controversy via a blog.

The board members should go and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses. There is much to be gained through the networking and information sharing at workshops like these. New products, educational trends and strategies for effectively managing a school district are all discussed. If even one or two ideas are brought back to improve the district then the time and money spent at the convention are well worth it. The board members have to stay current and attending these workshops and forums is one of the best ways to keep up with what's out there in the world of education.
