As Opening Day Nears, Manasquan Outlines Hurricane Sandy Projects

Will Manasquan be ready for Memorial Day? Borough Administrator Joe DeIorio said the answer is "a resounding yes."

DeIorio outlined the coming weeks' project schedule, culminating in a May 23 reopening celebration of the beachfront.

The beachfront walkway should be completed by May 15, DeIorio said, adding that day is a target date for several projects. The asphalt top coat should be laid beginning May 13, according to the borough engineer.

Electrical cables will be installed this week, and the light poles will be installed May 13-17, as well as Saturday, he said.

Beach lockers at the Sea Watch should be ready May 15, with the seasonal parking lot also ready that day, DeIorio said.

However, the bids to run a mobile concession at the Sea Watch will be opened May 16. The replacement playground at the Sea Watch is underway.

May 7, Manasquan Borough began a final sand sifting, focusing on 10 feet from the property east of the borough's. Fencing will be installed around construction areas that same time, DeIorio said.

Getting beach operations up and running is also ongoing, DeIorio said. Replacement equipment has been purchased. A resolution approving the last round of staffers for beach operations over the summer will be on the May 20 meeting agenda, he said.

May 23, a special celebration is being planned to mark the official reopening of the beachfront, where the tourism commission is also planning a party afterward at Leggett's Bar on First Avenue, with limited tickets available for $15.
