In addition to a public hearing that would decide more than $13 million in rebuilding and capital improvements, Manasquan Borough Council will decide whether to support or oppose a state proposal to make beach badges free.
Manasquan— like so many other towns — charges seasonally, weekly and daily rates for beach badges, and season badges are seeing a surge of purchases in December with beachgoers supporting the rebuild efforts, officials said.
However, a state initiative to make beach badges free is being pushed most noteably by state Sen. Steve Sweeney, who recently said towns who receive federal funding for beaches should not be able to charge for access.
In addition to other business, Borough Council will decide a resolution opposing free beach badges at its meeting, 4 p.m. Dec. 27 at borough hall.
The meeting's full agenda is attached.
