Gov. Christie in Manasquan at 3 p.m. Today

Inlet first stop on 'Endless Summer Tax Relief Tour'

Gov. Chris Christie, who for months has been touting his income tax relief proposal for all New Jerseyans, will make an appearance Monday in Manasquan to do just that.

Christie is scheduled to speak at 3 p.m. at the Pavilion at the Manasquan Inlet, 431 Beach Front, for the first stop in what's being called the governor's "Endless Summer Tax Relief Tour: A Conversation at the Jersey Shore."

"(Christie) will call for Corzine Democrats to stop holding tax relief hostage and urge the legislature to continue the New Jersey Comeback and provide bipartisan leadership by delivering tax relief to our citizens, making our state more competitive and allowing us to put more New Jerseyans back to work," according to a release from the governor's office.

Democrats in the Legislature, who recently sent Christie a budget that doesn't raise taxes, have promised to reconsider the governor's proposal if his revenue projections match collections.

The Republican governor on Tuesday will leave for a fundraising tour of five states and the District of Columbia for presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Let me guess, you are a teacher? 80% of my property taxes go to the schools in my town. The United States ranks something like 32nd in education in the world. Is that really worth it? Teachers don't pay for their health care. Why should I be paying for a retired teachers health care who lives in Florida? The funny thing is, if you ask a teacher, they hate Christie until they retire. If they are retired and live in NJ all of a sudden they love him. Hmmmm wonder why?

Actually, no, a mechanic. Teachers in Brick have been paying for their health benefits for more than 5 years. Did you get your info from Fox News, or the Christie PR people. You are full of crap that retired teachers love Christie...... he cut their retirements too. Let me guess, you are are retired crusty old person who just LOVES christie because he claimed to save a couple of dollars on your taxes, and you are living large on your social security check, which I pay for.

Oh, and before you cry "liberal", I voted for Christie.

Oh, and while we're on the subject, that ONE helicopter ride this scumbag took to see his kids ball game cost 5% of an average teacher's salary for a YEAR. Why do you people (you people meaning ignorant fox news watchers who THINK they are conservatives) let your politicians get away with these double standards???

You could cut all the teachers to Walmart wages, and schools would STILL be the highest portion of your tax bill. Education, like the military, is expensive.

Sorry, Manasquan, but better you than us.

Governor Christie held a "town hall" in our town. The work at the municipal building was stalled, police overtime accumulated, the DPW spent hours doing the set up and break-down, other groups couldn't use the building or parking, etc. We then had the honor of listening to him rail about his opposing party and be arrogant and rude to our residents.

Our taxpayers were footing the bill for what was, in reality, a political rally disguised as a town hall that should have been paid for by candidate Christie and/or the Republican Party.

We can only hope that he does not grace us with his presence again.

I'm really tired of this "corzine" democrats and "Christie Republicans" cr@p. It continues to perpetuate the stigma between the two parties and makes Republicans in New Jersey look like trifling fools. There was a time where one could be proud to call themselves a "Reagan Republican", but there is no honor on using it as a label. Chris Christie has accomplished nothing that affects me, a middle class worker, in a positive way. The $100 I might get back from his proposed 10% income tax cut is a pittance, yet all of his buddies are raking in more than ever.

To CHRISTIE DaLiar: Your last name fits with your comments (LIAR). You are exactly what is wrong with society today. You are a hateful uninformed voter. Probably your stating that you have voted for Reagan and Christie is far from the truth because as everyone knows only the peroson in the voting booth knows who they voted for. I have two daughters in law who are long time teachers and you are not speaking the truth. I also have many teacher friends who have told me exactly what they pay and in all cases it is nothing or mere pennies towards the benefits that the other working people pay for. As far as your declaring you are an independent we all know what that means. LIBERAL GET EVERYTHING OFF THE BACKS OF THE WORKING PEOPLE!

I have many teacher friends too, and you, ma'am, are not telling the truth. Some districts offer (offered) free benefits, and others had the teachers pay a portion. It used to be up to the districts. And those with free benefits generally had lower salaries.

And yes, I am a lifelong republican... have no reason to lie about that. And yes, before Mr Christie took office, I voted republican in EVERY election.

Christie DaLiar

12:45 pm on Monday, July 16, 2012

Independent means Liberal??? The politicians must LOVE you.
As someone used to say to me all the time, what a good loyal Wall Township republican you are. Ask someone who teaches in Brick how long they've paid for a portion of their benefits, then come back and tell me who the liar is. And those that got them for free also have MUCH lower salaries than other degreed professionals.

I never said I voted for Reagan; I wasn't old enough. I liked Reagan, and still do. Reagan wouldn't take his jacket off in the oval office out of respect. Christie calls veterans "idiots" if they dare disagree with him. Reagan was a controversial republican that was a decent person. Christie is a North Jersey scumbag.
I did vote for Christie. But will NEVER vote for him again.

By the way, Obama is almost as bad as Christie when it comes to education policy. I guess Keith Obermann told me to say that, right?

barb you sound like one of those crusty old ladies who can go to a town hall at 3 pm when the rest of us are working. christie's main support comes from seniors who dont reason things out like they used to and get their daily brainwashing from fox. gov crisco vetoes something everyday, gay marriage (which i could care less about) any tax on millionaires, he eliminated the protections set in place for decades to keep his greedy developer buddies from putting strip malls and housing developments in areas that dont even have a sewer system in place first. he could have vetoed the 50% tax hike it costs us just to get to work everyday but he is too busy campaigning and paying homage to the koch bros when he is constantly out of state. his helicopter ride to met life stadium just for the announcement of wrestlemania next year is a reminder of how he considers the people of nj to be peasants.

Let's put the teacher, police, firefighter, municipal and state workers issues to the side for a moment ( although these jobs are mostly middle class New Jersey and whether you call it pension contributions or medical premium payments these folks were still taxed!!) What has Christie done for New Jersey??? Other than being a loud mouth to any sign of opposition to his ideas...WHAT?? Where is the decreased cost with State government?? What jobs were cut? College interns?! Where is the property tax relief? Only a 2% increase??? Is he kidding?? How is New Jersey flipping the bill for this BIG income tax relief of his? He claims it's coming from the 7% earned on State investments,REALLY?? That's the highest return of any State in the Nation!! And how much of that do the truely needy receive? What planet is he on? Where are the creation of new jobs? Or decreased unemployment?? Remember, seasonal summer jobs don't count!! Face it folks, Christie was NEVER about middle class New Jersey! He serves his own master...himself!! Do you really think he EVER had plans for a 2nd term as governor?? That's why his priorities are on the campaign trail!!!

Christie is a bully. I don't like bullies. Never have. Spent a lifetime fighting them and will continue to do so. A governor should show diplomacy and understanding for all constituents, not just the ones who agree with him. Regarding taxes and pensions, since when did good pensions become a bad thing? The answer is when private enterprise found it economically beneficial by not providing them to their employees. Globalization has changed the way the world does business. Unless there is some nationalistic pride developed, then we will race to the bottom until our standard of living is so low that we can compete with the poorest and most backward nations that have the capacity to get a laptop and learn how to program. I did not vote for Christie. However, I hoped, as we all should have, that he would do the right thing by the state and all of its citizens. What I did see was that he fudged the figures on how much it would cost to build the NYC tunnel so as to strengthen his case regarding conservative fiscal leadership; when if that was passed, would have allowed a lot of workers to once again have a job and actually contribute to NJ and the country. If you pander to Fox, you are a sellout. If you pander to MSNBC, you are a sellout. Give me someone who is not liked by both and I bet that person would be loved by majority of the voters.

It's interesting that Christie is seen as a union hater and buster now. In 2009 when he was fundraising for his election there were plenty of unions who contributed to his campaign. ( http://www.followthemoney.org/database/uniquecandidate.phtml?uc=90695&gclid=CNLv6r7vnrECFYne4AodtXu0XQ ). Seems like Christie thinks only of the here and now. I hated McGreevey, and I think he was a lousy human being. But, looking back, he actually did some good things (like fix the DMV). His election stunt was sleazy. Christie did the same thing by renting Cerf an apartment in south jersey and claiming he lived there so he could get confirmed. Fact is, they're both scumbags. And no, I don't think scumbag is too harsh of a term when dealing with people like this.

It is sad that the best we can do in this country is say “Would you rather have *insert last politician to lose election*?” What happened to electing a LEADER instead of a special interest pawn. This goes for both sides of the isle. Christie is a horrible governor, as was Corzine, McGreevy and Whitman. I have yet to see any promises made during Christie’s campaign come to fruition. My taxes continue to go up, political hacks continue to double-dip in a pension system that the state still underfunds, our employment rate lags behind the rest of the nation. What has Christie done for our state? Zingers and one-liners aren’t going fix the enormous problems we face.

Hmmmm, no unions = less of a salary? Less off salary means less money to spend at restaurants, cars, less home repairs etc...I know one thing..Every business owner wants people to have more money in their pockets so they can spend money at their business...

The budgets for the various groups - municipal, school, county, etc. can not exceed the 2% cap. However, as we are seeing in Howell, with the re-evaluation, for those whose home retained under 20% of its value, you saw a shift of the tax burden onto you. My house lost 80K in assessment value, but my taxes increased by $2000.00.... Its ridiculous that people who are already paying the highest property taxes in the town are being asked to pony up more... That is why we have to reductions from both the BOE and the township...

The 2% cap is a scam...it excludes salary contracts, medical ins. and pension obligations.. Which by the way is where all the cost are..The towns have to get the money from somewhere. They do whatever it takes, that is legally possible. That is why so many feel Christie did not do a thing. A lot of hot air!!! If he really wanted to change things in Jersey, he would have tried to change the old tax structure that does not work. Make it fair, instead of just those who own real estate. It is the only way things will change. Spread it around to all jersey residents. Tax by income, so everyone pays. I forgot....He will not do that because then all his buddies would have to pay.

So, based on this and some other blog posts here on Howell Patch, I decided it was necessary to create a website with the purpose of making Howell tax payer waste visible and open it to the the public to submit where they see our tax dollars being wasted. The site just went up Sunday night and already had 4,000 hits, including about 40 from the US Govt....most of the others were from this area. I am new to web design so I need some feedback on what would make it more functional and useful.

The idea is to capture this waste and then use to challenge the Town Council and School Board with where they need to cut waste and improve the efficiency of our tax dollars. So, please go to www.TaxPayerWaste.com and contribute your ideas on where our tax dollars are being wasted and how to improve effective and efficient use of our money. But, really looking for some feedback on how to improve and for anyone who wants to join in developing and promoting the blog and gathering as a group when approaching various councils/boards. We're going to see Howell Deputy Mayor Gotto this Wednesday for his office hours, and a phone call with Gov Christie's office as well.
