Need free advice on how to repair or rebuild your home after Hurricane Sandy?
Try your local home improvement store, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA specialists are available daily Jan. 5 to Saturday, Jan. 12, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Home Depot, 3540 Route 66, Neptune.

- Cape May County – Lowe’s, 3171 Route 9 S., Rio Grande 08242.
- Essex County – Home Depot, 399-443 Springfield Ave., Newark 07103.
- Hudson County – Home Depot, 440 Route 440, Jersey City 07302.
- Middlesex County – Home Depot, 1090 Route 9, Old Bridge 08857.
- Ocean County – Home Depot, 1900 Shorrock Road, Lakewood 08701.
- Ocean County – Home Depot, 197 Route 72 W., Manahawkin 08050.
- Union County – Home Depot, 977 W. Grand St., Elizabeth 07202.
Specialists from FEMA will offer their expertise on building techniques that can help protect homes, business or other property in disasters, according to FEMA.
This free service also offers information and publications about home improvement, according to FEMA, such as:
- Mold and mildew cleanup.
- Flood- and wind-resistant building methods.
- Wind straps.
- Flood insurance.
- Retrofitting buildings.
- Elevating utilities.

Who the Faaaaaa'k cares,,, people aren't getting jack schitt , no where near enough to take care of their homes. What the Faaaaa'k are we, a third world country. We look at areas around the world and say how can people live in ruins,,,, well, we have ruins,,, should we end up like that?

Frank. if we were a 3rd world country or any other country, aid would have been there in a nano second. All our politicians want to do is profile for the world but do nothing for us. How many TRILLION have we spent rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan? And we started that IMMEDIATELY after we were attacked! And the 1st aid packages dropped there we taken by the Taliban!
Our country is run by self serving azz holes who want their perks and insane benifits and don't give even a mouse turd about the people they are SUPPOSED to serve

Well. Everyone I have talked to has received money from FEMA or they are going throught the long process of dealing with insurance.
Its a long long process. The money goes to you, then you have to send it to your mortgage company, then the mortgage company gives you 1/3 at a time....
I have a customer that has been waiting over a month.
If you didnt have flood insurance on your vacation home ...unfortunatly....That was your choice. The rest of the state should not have to pay to re-build it. (thats hard to say without sounding like a jerk...but its true)

My best advice for people rebuilding is to get referrals from friends and family.
Pick a contractor that is "hands on" not just a salesman adding a fee to the total cost.
Pick a contractor that can give you no less than 20 references.
No contractor can pull a permit without a license.....Get permits to cover yourself in the event that you sell your home.
Goto NJ Consumer affairs website to check for License information.
and most important!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pay per completion of work..Most flooded homes payment schedule should be.
Electrical / Plumbing rough...Insulation...Drywall.....Trim/ Doors.....Paint...Cabinets and Flooring..Plumbing and electrical trim.
Any work being done by any trade requires a license from the State of New Jersey.
Consumer affairs checks for qualifications and insurance.
Working with big box stores is not the best way to stay within your budget.
