PHOTOS: The Pumps Are Here!

The help from Michigan has arrived, according to Belmar officials.

The disaster recovery group that helped New Orleans clear its streets of water after Hurricane Katrina is in Belmar pumping water from Silver Lake and Lake Como back into the ocean. 

Officials have said the three 18-inch pumps can each pump 24,000 gallons per minute. 

The new pumps were working side-by-side with the pumps running since before Hurricane Sandy hit earlier this week. 

Other crews continue clearing the streets of debris. The U.S. National Guard is patrolling with the cleanup crews. 

"Clearing our streets of water and our neighborhoods of debris is our priority.  Pumping the water from these lakes back into the ocean will have the effect of getting the water out of our streets, allowing us to begin the rebuilding process," Doherty said in a release. 

Ocean Avenue in the area of Silver Lake on Friday was plowed of the feet of sand covering it earlier this week. And barely any signs of the boardwalk remained, as most of the pieces were cleared by workers on Wednesday and Thursday. 

The borough is also working with the New Jersey State Police and the National Guard to keep people away from the areas of town that need to be cleared of water and debris.  

"This is our priority," Doherty said. 

The 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew, lifted by the county on Friday, is still in effect in Belmar and other shore towns.
