Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Swimmer

15-year-old Neptune boy went missing early Thursday evening

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for Naisere Nelson, a 15-year-old boy who went missing in the Bradley Beach surf Thursday.

As local rescue crews temporarily called off their search due to storms after first receiving the call at approximately 5:40 p.m. Thursday, the Coast Guard continued its search through the night. Their search was officially called off at 11:04 a.m. Friday, according to a statement from Public Affairs Detachment Atlantic City.

A 25-foot response boat crew and a 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, a Coast Guard Auxiliary asset and the Neptune Police Department searched approximately 37 square miles for approximately six hours combined. Police and fire departments from Bradley Beach and several other local communities responded as well.

Nelson had apparently been swimming when he and two others nearby became distressed.

The other two swimmers, identified by authorities as Victor Pierez and Stephanie Crespo, 27 and 28, of Elizabeth, were able to reach shore and were treated for water inhalation and a knee injury, respectively. Nelson was of no relation to Pierez or Crespo.
