Belmar Hoping Prince Harry Comes to Visit

Royal has plans to visit New Jersey's Hurricane Sandy-devastated areas

Belmar is hoping to get on Prince Harry's itinerary for a stateside tour the royal has planned in May.

The Prince of Wales has planned a May stop, touring Hurricane-Sandy impacted areas of New Jersey and New York.

Belmar hopes he spends some of that trip in the borough, and Mayor Matt Doherty said they're working to try and make it happen.

"We're working on it...We'd like that," Doherty said when asked if it was a possibility.

Prince Harry will be visiting the United States May 9-15 to visit survivors of Superstorm Sandy and to promote charities he supports that help injured service men and women in the United States and the UK.

In addition to New Jersey, the Prince will visit New York City, Connecticut, Colorado and Washington, DC.

Gov. Chris Christie said he'll be chaperoning the Prince of Wales during his visit to New Jersey.

Belmar officials are hoping for a Christie visit as well, pushing for the governor to come week's later on Memorial Day and help kick-off the tourism weekend on the rebuilt boardwalk.
