Belmar: 'Come Back Tomorrow'

Officials tell residents, others to stay out until further notice

Belmar officials are asking residents and others to not come back into Belmar until tomorrow or conditions improve.

The roads are closed and it is highly dangerous, according to a release from the borough.

Witnesses in Belmar are reporting several feet of sand on Ocean Avenue and flooding from Silver Lake all the way to Main Street.

Water rescues could still be seen taking place by Tuesday morning, witnesses said.

Mayor Matt Doherty late Monday night tweeted the boardwalk had been "destroyed."

If you need assistance please call 732-681-3700.

Check back with Patch, the borough, or call the above number tomorrow to see if conditions have improved.

"If you are in your house already please stay inside and do not travel. If you need assistance getting out of your house please call us," the release says.
